Today is not just my favorite holiday ever...it's also the Meezer's Birthday! Otto and Wanda turn eleven today. They're the only ones of the six whose actual birthday we know since the other four are rescues, so it kind of turns into a great big birthday celebration for all of them. We'll have to celebrate extra hard for them today because yesterday was hard on all of the buddies.
Here's why: yesterday we had a yard sale and the buddies were miffed and very concerned. All they see are boxes and things being taken outside, which to them spells M-O-V-I-N-G. We had to reassure them endlessly that their kingdom was safe and we weren't going anywhere. Which really didn't hold water with them, particularly when we packed our bags later in the day to go run a 5K in Brevard. We needed a change of clothing because we were staying afterward for dinner and didn't want to be sitting around in the cold in wet clothes. Now we get it, they were probably thinking, you move all our favorite stuff out and then you pack your bags to leave. Very subtle.
Consequently, when we got back from our race and I got into bed later that evening, Otto had to hold on for dear life. He crawled under the covers, spent something like ten minutes getting comfortable, then grabbed my leg with both paws and snuggled in close. When I woke up this morning, we had both shifted, but Otto was still under the covers, holding my other leg. He wasn't going to let a travesty like yesterday happen again, by golly.
So today, Otto and Wanda and the rest of the buddies will get lots of Raar and play time, and of course a couple of big cans of stinky fish or turkey to gobble down (pardon the pun). We had to dispense with the candle part when we realized that near-sighted cross-eyed Meezers and flame sources don't mix, but we'll definitely sing the birthday song (maybe to the tune of the Mush Song?).
Happy Birthday, Otto and Wanda! And many, many, many more...
Happy Birthday Meezers! Sounds like it was a great one!
