I apologize for my delay in posting. I promised an update on Mister and Otto, and then only gave Otto's update. It's both good news and bad news. Mister is still in "pre-kidney failure," which just means, again, that we have to make sure he gets plenty of fluids at all times. Shouldn't be hard, because he loves water and he doesn't run from the mush, either. He's holding steady. And I'm holding on to him.
Literally, actually. We just got back from a mini-vacation, and Mister's been like velcro ever since we returned. I just picked him up and leaned back in my chair to hold him against my chest. He purred like his motor just got a heavy-duty tune up, and kept rubbing his sweet face all over my face. Words can't even express what an amazing feeling that is.
I don't know what's gotten into him lately, but I hope it doesn't stop. Mister seems more confident lately around the other cats--particularly Elroy, who can tend to be a tormenter for him. He even let the brand-new pet-sitter pet him, which is saying a lot. Maybe after fourteen years, Mister is finally coming into his own--feeling his oats and claiming his power. That would be a beautiful thing.
As an aside, the other morning, I was in bed cuddling with Elroy, who was also purring peacefully. He was smiling and enjoying the attention, when all the sudden, I felt another cat jump on the bed behind me. Usually I can tell right away who it is, but this time I wasn't paying as much attention and couldn't tell if it was Mister or Reggie. All I had to do was look at Elroy's face to be able to figure it out. Elroy's countenance actually changed. He went from smiling to jutting out his little chin in what can only be described as a scowl. His eyes sent from quiet exhilaration to a cold stare. I saw it with my own eyes. And knew, immediately, that the only cat that could be behind me was Mister.
It was, of course. Maybe one day they'll figure it out.
